The independent Turkki family of Mäntyharju, which has been examined up to the beginning of the 15th Century, is most likely the original family of the Turkkis named (or from the family branches) in Pentsilä and Päivilä of Valkjärvi Parish in the Karelian Isthmus. The original home of the Turkki family of Mäntyharju might have been located in the culturally Karelian region of Mäntyharju Parish, which was established in 1595 on the territories of three tribes (Häme, Savo, Karelia).
